I can't help myself! I've been at it again...

From Derby's Cattle Market carboot sale this morning:
....

..also forgot to add,
I bought a beautiful Bakelite safety razor, with a beautiful wood-like look, in perfect condition, for my Brit' personal wash kit - £0.50p!

If you look a page 33 of the 1st edition of 'Equipment of the WWII Tommy' by D. B. Gordon

One of the errors for which that series is famous. An excellent guide but they do contain some errors.
3 pocket carriers were never a part of the '37 pattern set.
Has it been corrected in 2nd edition?
They are fake stamps.

I'll check in my version... however a page reference isn't so useful. Which chapter is it in?

I looked and can't find the 3 pocket carriers in the new version at all!

I asked the chaps at http://www.karkeeweb.com/ what they thought of the three pocket cartridge carriers.
The following is posted for information only, I dont begin to suggest they are the sole authority on the subject, I am just using it to re-enforce my opinion, like you do. I quote directly from their reply;
"These are post-war Italian made pouches for their version of Patt. '37. Poorly made, compared to UK, they are often spuriously marked with maker, date & Broad Arrow. Pure B.S.
They are actually interesting, in their own right, along with other post-war Italian items, like two sizes of strap fastened Basic Pouches. Bloody dealers think they have to sex them up, without realising the British & Empire Armies NEVER used Cartridge Carriers like these! Prats & vandals."
I turn the witness over to the defense.
Does it matter for your games? I dont think so, not in the slightest. They would capture the character of the time and not look out of place in any time between about 1908 and the early '60s.
Not sure what you could put in them, the more usual '37 pattern pouches would be more useful.
